Talk by Prof. Dr. Hans Boas at the RTG

What Do Construction Grammarians Think About Construction Grammar?

The RTG is thrilled to announce a talk by Hans Boas from The University of Texas in the Research Training Group “Dimensions of Constructional Space.”

In the course of this talk, several key issues within the Construction Grammar framework (CxG) will be discussed. Since its inception, CxG has evolved in various directions  (“flavors”). While there are many shared tenets among the different varieties of the CxG framework, numerous questions still demand answers. In this talk, Hans Boas will address some of these pressing questions:

  • Tools and formalisms within Construction Grammar
  • The relationship between Construction Grammar and usage-based linguistics
  • How to handle different kinds of meaning?
  • Should Construction Grammar provide a coherent model of language?

Based on a survey with CxG researchers, the talk will highlight areas of consensus, points of contention, and aspects where researchers are uncertain about the best course of action.

The talk is scheduled for October 12th and will be held in room C601 at Bismarckstraße 1, from 10:15 to 11:45.
